I'd just like to point out that while the word "theory" has a connotation of uncertainty in everyday language, this isn't the case in scientific language. In science a theory is an idea that is impossible to confirm as absolutely true (such as gravity or evolution), but has been verified so many times that it's reasonable to accept it as fact. A hypothesis, on the other hand, is an idea that is still being verified and can be doubted.
What I personally believe about evolution vs christian creation story is that both are true. The 7 days of the creation are figurative, so that could actually be 700 million years instead of 7 literal days. I believe that evolution did in fact happen, but not without drive. How could something so amazing happen without a major source? I believe that God made evolution happen and that both stories are true in their own ways.

Take it or leave it, I really do hate to be religious on Funsubstance but I just had to express this thought.

Again, if you're not religious please save your hate for when it really matters. I understand that if you don't believe this or believe something completely different that's totally up to you so instead of hating on me for simply letting you know what I think, please put your time and energy into something more productive.

The universe isn't 700 billion years old but I agree with you. Have had this theory for many years.
Consider not only the age of the earth, but the age of the cosmos. Also, where did god come from? Not doubting the existence, but simply questioning the motives, and also the origin of such a powerful being.
I know at my church, it really helps some people to believe that someone is watching over them, and they choose to follow their version of who is watching over them
Oh fun! Debate time! Let's keep it civil Folks we're all humans here! Ok, so, if the 7 days actually stood for 7 eras, why were things dying? Evolution revolves around death. Survival of the fittest. The fittest live and reproduce, that's natures law. But the bible says that there was no death till AFTER the creation of the world! Because of Adam and Eves choice to disobey God, death entered this world. Your turn!
look at it like this, I probably know more about Afganistan than you do, not because I've been there, but because I know someone who has. It's believed that Moses wrote Genesis and he was told the stories by someone who was there.
Like winter said, its still not to be taken literally. Let me ask you this then. why are you so desperate to disprove our belief in god, yet you easily accect that Moses wrote the book of Genesis and heard it from someone who was there?
Anyways if we were to take the old testament literally, its impossible that someone would still be around from adam and eves time to tell moses the story because everyone on earth was supposedly wiped out during noah's time
Hey, Winter. If we shouldn't take the Adam and Eve story literally because No One Was There, why should we believe Evolution; No One Was There for billions of years more!
What's he on about? Fossils turn up in the wrong strata all the time! Sure, it's usually attributed to geological shifts or other scientifically-explained phenomena, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. (Just that when it happens, it can almost always be explained.)
What he SHOULD say is "Evolution could be disproved if there was more evidence to refute it than support it. Evolution has passed this test with flying colours."
Dude chill. It's peoples own free will to believe in whatever they want to believe in and to believe where they came from. For all we know science and religion could be wrong. The evidence behind evolution is unwavering. But does that mean that God doesn't exist? No. Live your own life how you choose to live it as long as you aren't hurting others. Be a good human, a good earthling. The truth will be revealed to us all at the end of our lives but until then just relax and enjoy the ride of life.
I once told a friend after a long debate about creationism verses evolution that in the end it comes down to this. If I'm right and you're wrong I'm set and you're screwed, but if you're right and I'm wrong well I've lost nothing.
@lucky11 - Right. :) "Oh, our (christians) way of living was meaningless? That's okay, we spent our lives exhibiting fruits of the spirit and intrinsically good things." :) Even if we were wrong (which we're not), God tells us to live our lives properly. Gal. 5:22 is just one of a few verses.
Wow you suck. If you really choose to reject evolution despite the mountains of evidence, you are ignorant and do not contribute to this planet whatsoever.
Don't even get me started. I've had many more arguments with people just a blinded by religion as you.
@lucky - your statement makes you seem like you only believe in god in case there is a god. If you're going to believe in a god at least truly believe. Not "just in case" that's pathetic. If god gave people "free will" why is it that unless you follow the bible, you're going to hell? "Oh yeah do whatever you want. But don't do what I say and I'll damn you for eternity" some god.
c3 -saying that due to being Christian you had meaning in your life makes it sound like people who don't believe have no meaning when a lot are probably better than average Christians. Also. Please give me proof as to how you're not wrong since you seem so certain
Ok I'm a Christian. Firm Christian. But that was just dumb. You can't just go around slapping people with your bible. In the end, to God's eyes, you are no better than anyone else here. That's why we have Jesus. Jesus is like that one friend who takes you to the club and the bouncer goes, "you can't come in" then Jesus pops out of the door and is like, "nah, Peter brah, it's cool they're with me"
