The parents can deal with monitoring or censoring what the kids see.
Also, many kids can handle tech fine, and depriving them of casual usage may only hinder them in this new technological age.
I don't know what schools you've been around, but I've never had that as a problem. People bring Ipads into my school and stuff- because we're all 11-18 years old- we already have social skills and talk to eachover WHILE people are on ipads. Any younger ages- generally the most the school will supply them with is computers, laptops at the most, which they aren't allowed to take off school grounds. Unless they bring their own ipads/ipods or phones in- in which case the majority of parents wouldn't allow them to. Even for kids who do have ipads in school- you cannot spend All.DAY on the ipad. Lessons, talking, group projects. It's a special kind of parent that sends a kid on their VERY FIRST DAY of any form of education in with an Ipad- that is the only way I can see a child never developing social skills.
