I honestly had a friend, who every time he seen deer in a field on the side of the road, he would make you stop the car so he could get out and chase them on foot to catch one... EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
This is called endurance hunting, instead of shooting something, people just run after it at a constant rate. Animals like deer usually aren't very good at running long distances, they just run for a little bit to get away, but humans are capable of jogging all day, so as long as you don't loose its trail you just keep on jogging and eventually you catch up to a deer that's collapsed from exhaustion.
We can catch a deer with out bare hands, humans are the world's best long distance runners the only animal that can almost keep up to us are canines and even they don't really stack up to us. So long as you can track the deer you can run it down until its exghausted and either is too weak to run or its heart gives out
