It's heartwarming to know that people can have relatively normal lives again after such awful accidents. And technology is only getting better so hopefully oneday people can look completely normal again
There used to be a person on here who survived a shotgun blast to the face (or so they said), I was just a guest back then and can't remember their screen name.
Off the top of my head, I can think of 3 people that survived shotgun blasts to the face. It happens. One lady was shit by her boyfriend and as far as I know has not received a transplant as it was not an option then. Her nose and mouth were virtually gone. There was a man accidentally shot by his little boy who lost an eye and his nose and another man who shot himself - took out the lower portion of his face. Not really sure that's living. I hope the recent continued success of these surgeries give them some hope.
They can and they have. Charla Nash who lost a portion of her face, her eyes and her hands in a chimpanzee attack received a new face and new hands (her body rejected the first set of hands; not sure she got another set yet) however, there is nothing that can be done about her eyes. They have also been doing the same for burn victims with less success due to the extensive nerve damage burn victims usually have, as connecting the nerves from the new tissue to the old tissue is essential.
Why did they make his eyes so asian though? The eyes were the only thing on his face that looked normal.
Don't get me wrong, I applaud the surgeons for their amazing work, it just seems ironic to me.
They did not "make his eyes look Asian". They generally cut around the eyelids for a facial transplant, thus pulling the existing eyelids tighter. The skin will relax overtime and normalize a bit more. One side of his face also looks like some swelling remains. It can take up to a year for that to subside.
Okay, thank you for explaining. As I said, I'm not trying to be critical here so I don't understand why so many downvotes, but thank you both nonetheless.
