Imagine breaking a wire and no one could help you

You could at least cut the wire. My sister once somehow got her teeth stuck together and my dad had to cut her mouth back open with a pair of wire cutters.

I know tons of people of took their braces off themselves

You know, all you have to do it get the wire loose and pull it out. As for the brackets, use your strength to knock them off. I bet this 'Josie' has never had braces, or if she had, must have treated her teeth kindly as not to damage the braces. (I have unintentionally managed to remove the wire and brackets quite a few times when I had braces)
