The book is from the point of view from a fire fighter who experiences something while working (will not spoil) that makes him question the government that he works for. Civilians typically just sit at home and watch TV's (the walls are TV's) all day, and are made completely apathetic and uneducated. Everyone is 100% controlled and they don't even realize/care. The firefighter slowly becomes more aware of what has happened to society and then starts his journey towards fighting back and realizing that he is not the only one.
