maybe in that context. but when you're just being bullied or attacked it's not your fault. there are some people who want to make you feel bad because they can't do what you do. sometimes you're not ugly or stupid or untalented, people are just mean.
Even if you are, nice people would keep their mouths closed. Mean people would be mean about it. And people who tell it like it is would tell it like it is. I'm not saying criticizing people is bad, I'm just saying that you shouldn't let it get to you because it's a reflection of them too. For example: you have a favorite artist but another person criticizes them that their work is bad. It doesn't mean the artist sucks, right? It just means the other person has a different taste.
so yes, the title is right. Someone does need this, because a lot of people need to know that criticism isn't always general truth. It's often just an opinion, and you shouldn't get yourself down over it.
Not really. Mindless hating, yes, that I agree with 100%. But constructive criticism is a good thing, and should be learned from, not waved off because "my mom told me you critique me because you're insecure about yourself" and then you still keep thinking you're flawless. That way you'll become arrogant. You only need to distinguish what's constructive criticism and what's baseless hating.
Example: people having a problem with Dormer's mouth is mindless hating. She can't change that and they are probably just jealous that she's so good looking so they pick on flaws to make them feel better about themselves (trust me, I'm jealous of her looks too, but obviously I don't hate her because of it). BUT! People criticizing her acting with actual arguments and examples that support this criticism, that's constructive and good. And I really hope she is smart enough to have figured this out, because obviously these quotes are somewhat scripted, and hopefully she has her own mind about this.
I think Natalie is smart enough to know the difference. That's what she means, I think, the baseless hating thing. Because she's not arrogant at all. She maybe didn't say the right or specific word, as you pointed out, because you have to keep your answers quick and short in interviews. But yeah, I think that's what she means.
I think this is true sometimes. When somebody tries to insult you for no apparent reason like saying "you ugly, loser, stupid,..." it means that they think this particular insult would be a hurtfull thing to hear. So it can be a reflection of their own insecurities or fears. People tent to project their own doubts and flaws on other people to feel better about themselves.
Also, what happened to the last word in the second panel?
