Most guns are militia guns for defending the country not the household. You not allowed to use it to defend yourself. And ammunitoin is not kept in the house.
It doesn't matter. Gun ownership vs. gun crime rate is so varied among countries that there's not really any definitive way to say whether allowing people guns helps lower gun crimes or not (completely based on those two pieces of the data)
There's also examples of the opposite. And examples of everything in the middle. It's more of an example of a region that has things figured out, which Switzerland is pretty known for. People figure things out. Guns are just tools. Might as well look at the hammer related crimes too or just crime rates in general.
Careful with that last thought... that's exactly the thinking of the Massachusetts liberals. First it was the guns, so they severely restricted them. (To an unconstitutional degree imo.)
Then people resorted to stabbing, so they made a great many knives illegal. Now it's baseball bats and other miscellaneous sports equipment and tools. I think someone was recently beaten with a golf club.
Often, yes that is the case. With the Switzerland example, the critical detail often omitted is that the citizens are trained and disciplined in their use.
.
However, those sort of stats can be used to disarm those who "run at the mouth" with little to no, even false information.
I completely agree with you. But I believe that if you want to compare the stats of gun ownership vs gun related crimes in each country, you need to know the situations such as what you just explained. It's necessary to make it more accurate
