And I do think the thought that men who have very close friendships with other men are automatically seen as gay can actually damage them, in stories at least. There is a distinct difference between bromance and actual romance.

Yeah there is some pretty intense shipping in the Holmes pastiche.
And I think Bringasnack Crazypant's version is really asexual too. He has such a disdain for romance of any kind that I can't see him being in a romance with John. And besides, he'd be pretty controlling and manipulative and he already treats John pretty poorly. I think he's just not capable of making a relationship work. The fact that John and Molly and the rest are still friends with him is more a reflection of them than of him.
