You've testified to ruin someone's life. You know your testimony is false. Therefore, you have (attempted to) completely shattered someone's hopes and dreams because they will have a criminal record and lost far too much time in prison.
Explain?
Falsely accused of murder, robbery, extortion, drug/human trafficking, crime lord, pretty much anything. Some of them would take a lot more effort to falsely accuse someone of (like crime lord) but any of those will destroy someone's reputation.
Destroying someone's reputation falsely cause the same psychological effect as being a victim of a rape crime, at least in this situation, even if he was proven innocent people will always link his name with an awful crime, which means he will always be a criminal in the eyes of the people no matter what is the truth.
If it creates a criminal record have fun finding a job. Do you remember reading a post a long while back about a man who got put in jail for something stupidly minor, but that created a criminal record for him. You know those things where you say "yes I have not been convicted of a crime" or something like that? It's illegal to lie about that. Technically businesses aren't allowed to discriminate against employment on that basis but for some reason that heavily factors into your chances. If you tell the truth, you're almost guaranteed not to get the job but if you lie you're almost guaranteed to go back to jail. Anyhow, this guy said he often contemplates returning to crime just because it was more profitable and socially welcoming. He didn't feel like a reject among other minor criminals. Or he's rather go back to jail because that's where he gets free stuff.
It seems like your assuming that everyone who gets falsely accused gets convicted. Or are you talking specifically about people who were falsely convicted?
The latter.
Once it's found out, the crucial witnesses should be brought back and reexamined and then punished accordingly if it's deemed they've knowingly lied under oath.
Ah. Yeah, that I can get behind. I was hesitant because we'd be dealing with potential damages, but if everything's all said and done all ready then that actually makes a lot of sense.
And he may have the sex offender label on him for life. If this happened to me I'd just start a vigilante group and do the worst things I could to get back in jail because fuck living in society if I can't take a walk without someone "knowing" I'm a rapist.
