Tbh I feel they fucked him up a little. In canon, Deadpool has no known background. People say they know who he is but there's a lot of contradictory statements and even he doesn't remember his past but in the movie they made a whole new brooding backstory for him ( as far as I can tell from the trailer )

His schizophrenia isn't always prominent, and the backstory they gave him is actually true to his origins. Deadpool has been rewritten and messed with but initially he had a living girlfriend before getting cancer and joining the weapon k program and then being handed to weapon x. So calm down people, plus it's an alternate universe, it doesn't have to be to the comic books to a T

Marvel is owned by Disney that is doing deadpool, fox made that movie, and only to hold their rights for the characters
