I hated playing the recorder, it was a pointless instrument

I thought it was a good idea. It didn't last long and it was an easy way to introduce kids into reading music with an instrument that's simple and doesn't require much work to play.

In my primary school you were forced to play it or you'd get into trouble

Well yeah it was part of the curriculum. Like refusing to take a test or quiz.

I didn't mind doing tests or quizzes but I didn't want to play an instrument I didn't wanna play

Worst part about playing the recorder at school was knowing that 50 other snivelling 8 year olds have had their disease ridden gobs all over it before you.

I rocked at hot cross buns/three blind mice on the recorder. But the recorders were all shared and only sat in water between each child using. As an adult now, I realize how gross it really was.

Sorry guys, but where did you grow up? Uzbekistan? Myanmar? It literally couldn't get any cheaper than a recorder...

I'm in the US and we had a recorder unit in 5th grade music class. *thankfully* we didn't have to share but we had to pay for our own recorders.
