I remember saying something like this in the comments before. About the foot soldiers not knowing about the camps. But I was down voted to hell for being a "nazi sympathizer"

No, you are telling the truth, not a nazi sympathizer. Most of Germany weren't even nazis.

The first place the Nazis terrorized was Germany, a lot of people forget that
I learned this in a psychology class. If I remember correctly there was a study done that participants had to press a button and sounded like someone was being electrocuted in the next room and participants answered they were juat following orders and that's why they did it which is what happened with german soldiers. Participants were obviously upset because they were compared to nazis. And that's why research has to include full disclosure now.

Scary stuff, right? We had to study that when I took psychology, also.
What I learned in school (in Germany) was, that many Germans back than claimed that they didn't know about the camps. But it's actually quite hard to tell if that's true today. A common opinion is that a lot of people didn't knew but also that soldiers and other involved Nazis claimed it so they won't get punished.
The reaction on the photograph is more than understandable. Even people who were involved in some of the things that happened in the camps (for example the transportation towards the camps) were maybe or probably not aware of every horrible detail. But I am sure that those documentations the Allies made and forced the Germans to watch were very graphic and as detailed as possible.
I also heard of guided visits to concentration camps which were organised by the Allies. But I am not sure if one could "visit" the camps optionally or if they were forced as well.
Gas chambers, got it. Undisputed fact.
You're still going to need citations for the soap and the lampshades.

(other guest) there were some people who manufactured lampshades out of human skin but not in massproduction for the common market and even the gas chambers what? what is your point with the gas chamber?
