Or if you don't give a flying monkey if you're smoking while a pregnant lady passes in front of you. It's disrespectful. If you don't care about getting lung cancer fine. But move that stinky stick & smoke away from the pregnant ladies.
I remember my health teacher saying something like this but about alcohol. He said something like if you drink while pregnant, you don't deserve children.
Or addicted and stuck in it. My mom did drugs when she was pregnant with me and got herself to rehab a few months after I was born. She wasn't a bad person, she just needed help.
It's not about being good or bad person, it's about the health of the baby. You may have turned out just fine, but smoking or deinking while pregnant can lead to the baby having problems, either in birth, in the womb or later on in life.

Actually, the post specifically said they were bad people.
Yes, I know that can hurt the baby.
I never said I turned out fine.
sometimes we are way way way too hard on pregnant women. smoking, is an addiction. sure, if you dont even attempt to stop, thats not good, but stress and shit also negatively effects the fetus. sometimes you gotta seek balance.
life is not simple black and white... while i do not have a smoking problem, i've dealt with enough needs in life to understand why a person might not be able to stop doing something even if everything inside them knows its not the right choice.

If you smoke like a pack a day you can't quit cold turkey when youre pregnant without a huge risk of miscarriage. You need to wean off
Still don't see how someone's decision on if they smoke or not affects your kids. Does the mom/dad show up and puff smoke at your children? No they don't. And the child who has been 'exposed' to smoke is more tolerant of the adults who continue to smoke.
Because they're harming their kids in the womb which can cause something to mess up, a lot of people get asthma because of it and that's not even the worst they can get.
And if a parent smokes around their child they can get very sick from the second hand smoke
Don't expose kids to that shit
Have you ever considered that people are empathetic enough to give a shit about other people's children? And if they weren't concerned about the babies, how about the fact medical issues caused by smoking during pregnancy are a drain on the economy when it could have been avoided
I care about other people's kids because I'm not a shit lord
Would you just expect me to let someone's kid get kidnapped or beat up because they aren't my kids so it isn't my problem ? The fuck ?
I was born in the 60's and I can imagine all the second-hand smoke my mother must have breathed in during her pregnancy. She didn't smoke, but most of her relatives did.
The thing is that everyone says that it's bad to smoke while being pregnant. But if you have smoked a very long time, like my mom 30 years, it will be a shock for the body when you quit and it can affect the baby. My mothers friend has 4 children. When she was pregnant with the first 3 she smoked but then she quitted smoking when she was pregnant with the 4th child. It was born dissabilied while the rest were healthy
this is how it is with all things... like, exercise is great right? but if you were a sludgy sloth before pregnancy you have to be super careful about exercising now because now it can harm the baby, whereas someone who was an athlete can continue to be athletic once preggo.
its pretty easy to be pro choice but also beleive that if you are choose to have the child you owe it to the child to do what you can to ensure its health. hell thats part of why many of us support choice, its wrong to bring a child you cannot care for into this world, give a kid a fighting chance or don't have it.
I agree with deviledapple
If you want to have a child of your own. Go ahead.
If you don't want to, you don't have to. Having a baby literally changes your body for the rest of your life and foster homes and orphanages are still around and overcrowded.
But if you're pregnant and want to have a baby, and then you put harmful toxins in your body that are proven to do bad shit to babies in the womb, you're terrible. You knowingly put that baby at risk for diseases and disorders because you have a harmful habit and felt it was more important than the health of your future child.
It's not about feeling the habit is more important than the child. It's really hard to fight free from addiction. If someone is fighting addiction while pregnant, they probably already feel like shit for not being able to quit cold turkey. It doesn't help to pile more guilt and shame on them.
theres a line between "don't do anything bad for a baby" and "reasonable effort" i would argue that expecting someone to give up an addiction cold turkey is silly, but it is wrong for them to not attempt to quit or at least reign (not sure if its rein or reign in this usage, sorry) in the habit within a range known to present less or minimal risk. like, having 14 cups of coffee a day is not safe for a fetus, however most sources agree that staying under 200mg of caffeine a day is acceptable. honestly sooo many babies are surprises (even when people want kids) and the kids do not appear to suffer from the months of drinking and smoking, and it IS a fact that stress while pregnant effects the fetus, so absolutely, it is unhealthy to quit something cold turkey.

Absolutely. I just think it's difficult to tell what someone is trying to do from the outside so judging them is pointless and unhelpful. They might be doing the best they can or they might not care at all. It's hard to tell what's in another person's heart and mind unless we're close enough for them to tell us.
ah but we are a world of judges. i know even myself when i try not to assume i still catch myself being catty about shit i know nothing about. it's why ill be having my cup of coffee at home while i'm preggers.
But I guess that would explain why that generation and their kids are so stupid

It's like those anti vaxxers, just because your kid didn't die doesn't mean others haven't/won't
And if a parent smokes around their child they can get very sick from the second hand smoke
