Well, when eggs first form, the zygotes are actually unicellular. But the 'eggs', as we know them, are really a collection of cells that grow and, if incubated by the mother, will develop into a lil bird--in this case, an ostrich. However, if they're not incubated (as these eggs usually are removed from the nest for consumption purposes), the small embryos die and all that's left is egg yolk, which is not living and does not, I believe, exist in cells, but rather molecules. So after it's laid, the singular cell has already split.

Actually, nerve cells are the largest biological cells. The ones in the longest squid are 80 times larger than an ostrich egg (12m long) By "large" they don't mean heaviest though.
