i've heard people refer to any and all black people as african american. people i know and love as part of my close circle.

My white brother-in-law is from Ethiopia, but he can't call himself African-American even though he really is.

One of my professors last year was south african and white shes technically african american

My Jamaican-Canadian room mate would get so mad being called African American.

this is why this is one the worst "politically correct" terms we have, because it is so so incorrect. so many black people, even american black people, are anything but african american, i see it so much here in florida since we have a large population from islands. i hear people toss off the concern with something like "but their ancestors where from africa" but if we gunna talk about who people descend from then we're ALL freaking african americans....
