Constantly feeding a child's self esteem isn't good either. It results in little self-absorbed pricks that think the world owes them something. Trust me, my neighborhood is infested with the little participation-trophy-earning-never-been-told-no assholes.

You are absolutely correct; kids shouldn't be made to feel like they are any better or worse than anyone else. It should definitely go both ways.

MY PARENTS DO THIS ALL THE TIME AND ALWAYS USED TO AND I FEEL LIKE A PIECE OF SHIT BUT HEY THE MITOCHONDRIA IS THE POWERHOUSE OF THE CELL RIGHT
I know exactly how you feel, fangirl_life. My dad behaves as if he was a woman on her period, only not just for a week at a time, but constantly. According to him, I'm always doing something wrong or inefficiently or too slowly and he doesn't realise that yelling at a person will:
a) not make them speed things up, on the contrary the stress will make them panic and most likely mess something up
b) ruin their self esteem and sense of responsibility.
Some people just don't get that.
Sometimes I wear basketball shorts and mom looks at me, she does her little slightly annoyed thing and says, "Can you wear something girlier?" And the next time she says that I'm just going to say I don't dress to impress you
Here's the thing though...I would kill for my mom to tell me I look cute or pretty one day...instead I get your wearing that? Have you even showered? Or brushed your hair? And do you even wash your face you have pimples...I just want one complaint from my family....
However, you are not the mitochondria.
...You are the nucleus. Essential, powerful and necessary to the existence of the cell. :)
