Plus there are a tonne of organisations that are required to advertise the position even if they already know who they're hiring. It happens in government jobs all the time

No shit. They want a notice weeks in advance if you're not gonna show, and then bam they leave whenever.
as someone previously in a managerial position this is so rude. you dont want to work for a company that doesnt respect you anyway. you slot a certain number of qualified individuals and you schedule interviews for a series of days. you give everyone you called a face time even if you think youve already found "the one" because those canidates moved their lives around for your benefit. you could be whammied by your very last one and youll never even know because your bitch ass canceled on someone the LAST FUCKING MINUTE. so rude.
Not gonna lie, part of the reason I haven't really looked anywhere else lately for a better paying job is because I don't want to go through this bullshit. My boss said that if I graduate college by next fall, they'll up me to staff accountant this summer. I'm hoping for a significant pay increase to cover my stupid student loan debt. Otherwise, guess I will be looking for a different job. UGH
So, if they set up 48 interviews and find their man on the 3rd one they should go through the motion of the other 44 interviews out of courtesy, even though none of those people have a chance at the job?
If they find someone better qualified yeah I guess. Maybe they have other positions open but they're not hiring because it's not strictly necessary, or they found someone who would be absolutely amazing in a position that doesn't need people but may or may not be able to fit another body in the payroll.
if i own a company and i find someone i am certain i want to hire, i would not bother with thre rest of the interviews either, its a waste of resources, and a waste of the interviewees times if i am already decided.
YEAH
