I can understand waiting to tell until they say something homophobic but a lot of people act like you said something homophobic and expect some kind of groveling for offending them
I say homophobic, racist, discriminatory, and stuff that could generally be construed as "hateful" in the right context except that I say them in such a way that everybody is included in my discrimination and you'd have to be about as dumb as a petri dish of penicillin to believe that I actually mean what I say.
By "right context" do you mean you say this stuff to other tasteless people? Because that what these kind of jokes are. If you can't be funny unless you say shit like that....then your not funny, get a better way to be humorous rather than continuing a form of homophobia and racism.
There's a difference between homophobia and assholery. I really should have made that clear in my initial comment but I'm lazy. I am an asshole. I make asshole jokes. I am not phobic. I do not make hate statements. Only asshole statements.

I wish there was a better word than homophobia because it just makes me picture people running away in terror. Like "the gays are coming! AAAAHHHH!" When it's really more like people just being an asshole.

*a bunch of gays are just going to bite you and turn you gay*
Yeah, whenever I hear it, I imagine someone saying, "If you don't give me one million dollars by the end of the week, I WILL KISS THIS MAN IN FRONT OF YOUR HOUSE"
That's the stupidest comeback. That's like saying "I'm a woman and I think sexism is fine". Just because your of a certain sexuality dosent mean your the voice for their standards and needs. The point is, even " innocent" jabs keep a society trained that a homophobic/racist mindset is ok on some level.
I have plenty of LGBT friends who are cool with "insulting" jokes, because they're just that: Jokes! Dark humor, not meant to be taken seriously in any way.
That's not dark humour, it's just saying racist or homophobic shit. dark humour is vastly different. It's also very convenient for some one to say "oh it's just a joke", I think it's a cop out, you can be fucking helarious without this shit, it's just lazy comedy and a way to keep spouting hate. In the end it does hurt someone, regardless of what you think, there is far too much "it's just a joke" out there when it's really about keeping people in there place.
And it's really not that hard to distinguish between hate and dark humor. Westboro is a hate organization whatever they may say. So is the KKK. So what of the comedians who touch on darker subjects? Are they hate talkers?
Well after those shut downs why bother, I could say the same comments about your thought process. Also don't touch the Python.....is sacred. In the end, not telling these jokes dosent hurt anyone, telling them can......it's your choice.
Not telling jokes hurts me.
There's a time and place for humor, and there's a "not" time and place for satire. By this I mean that actions and words intended to incite laughter have places they're appropriate. Actions and words intended to poke fun at something have a time and place where they should NOT be. And if these are recognized and followed, there is absolutely no problem with the darkest of jokes.

He's right. There's a difference between the occasional racist joke and the direct, repeating insult of a certain group.
Yeah, jokes are a way for many people to over come their differences. For a lot of people, who aren't hateful about it but may be simply uncomfortable with it, it allows them to laugh usually in the room with people the joke is about. Laughing bridges a gap, the same way that morning a loss can.
Don't get all butt hurt about it.
*see what I did there? I made a joke about butts because of the homosexual topic of this post. It doesn't hurt anyone, I have absolutely no problem with people in the LGBT community. It's the black community I can't stand.
I'm kidding again. You can tell when someone is an asshole, hateful, or just making a joke don't act like you can't.
Wow with material like that you should have your own show. You sure showed me bud. Ill just leave you all to this ignorance circle jerk. Have fun kids.

I think you're just a bit too dim, maybe too tired.
Bigbangwala, I'm putting all jokes aside here. This is no longer trying to win you over, but an attempt to see your side.
I want to know what comedians are your favorite? Obviously we disagree with flavor of funny, and although we may disagree, I still want to understand where you are coming from.
Personally Louis CK, Jim Gaffigan, and Tom Suegura (that last name is probably not spelled right) are my top three.
I'm bi,and I make homophobic jokes all the time
