I get the whole opposite thing bc I'm lowkey emo and ppl assume I'm into pop or whatever, which isn't bad I like pop, but i love rock and so ppl are just...Ok? But then they're like "what you listening to?" And i tell them "oh just to Dvorak's symphony no. 9 'from the new world'" and they look so confused AND THEN they think I'm being a pompous little shit and I'm like no mofo, i just love classical music.
Same. Rock is awesome too, but I prefer classic rock. And when I do say that I'm listening to say Concerto No. 5 in D Major, Op. 22, 1st Mvt. (beautiful piece by the way by F. Seitz) people act like I'm some poser that fakes liking those sort of things.
I agree with this so much. I really enjoy metal/screamo music, but people assume I only listen to pop and indie because of the way I act and dress. A lot (all) of the songs I listen to contain swears and I'm known as the child who has probably never even said "crap." I wear what some would consider "girly" clothes (from free people, urban outfitters, etc.) and for some reason I shouldn't listen to that music because of my personality and clothing style.
I would say that our music choice dies say a lot about our personality. Bause personality means who we are, not how we dress, look like, or who we are friends with. My favorite music is basically who I al, and I wouldn't trust someone who says the music he listens to does not have an impact on a personal level...
I'm like.. semi- lowkey emo... But I wear my (accidentally- twas supposed to be blue) green and black hair. I wear my tight jeans and green day shirts but people are shocked that I love Bowie.
And Beethoven.
My music taste is so broad, it goes from Disney to dubstep, from indie rock to screamo, pop to rock. Because I tend to like songs and not bands I have the most random collection of music
And Beethoven.
I listen to metal and rock, people are always shocked.
