It's not about being ashamed... Being ashamed doesn't help. As a fat dude, I can tell you this, for sure. The more I tolerate/accept the fact that I am fat, the easier it is for me to lose weight.
shame just makes you wallow and eat more. much easier to work out and eat better when you're ok with your body instead of depressed if it stops working for a few weeks.

Guest, you hold the key to weight loss right there! The first step is accepting you have a problem. I used to be 40 inches at the waist and 250. I got down to 32" and 182. Keep at it!
Sure, if your a puss. Shame exists for a reason. If people shame you because of the way you dress think about changing the way you dress. Don't automatically do it, but most people value the opinions of others, so when they shame you consider that criticism.
This isn't about being fat. This is about forcing your unpleasantness on others. I don't want to see, in detail, how little your care about yourself. Keep it covered as best you can.
