I suspect not quite as many as you think. Yes a few to be sure... but moms of 13-17 year olds are generally a lot more tech savvy than their counterparts from even ten years ago.
A $10 a month YouTube subscription that gets you ad free videos, offline watching, sound that plays while your phone is locked, and access to Red only content.
It's also a cash grab that's going to be the death of YouTube and the small scale content creators.
.
When I say small scale, this still includes channels that have a subscriber base in the multiple millions.
.
When I say death, I mean that nearly literally. With what little information they have released, the payout scheme favors larger creators over the smaller ones, even if you don't watch the large ones. It is in fact, a form of communism.
.
Let me say that again: the large scale creators will get paid out of the Red revenue even if you don't watch them and watch something else.
And under the payout scheme, they won't even find out if they still have a job until February.
.
They aren't getting screwed, they're getting raped with a saber toothed dildo.
People who don't want to pay the fees, like me, will deal with the ads to watch who we want. And people can still post singular videos if they want to. But I doubt that they'd boot Markiplier off, at the very least, or anyone like him
YouTube's ad revenue sharing is presently sufficient for many professional YouTubers to make it their full time job.
If the sharing payout changes radically enough, like it looks like it is about to many of the "smaller" channels will, become insolvent be forced to quit in lieu of getting a "real job."
.
The real dick punch is that payout for a given month doesn't get reimbursed until 45 days after the end of a calendar month. That part didn't change. However, with this scheme and the changes implemented yesterday... it's going to be mid February before they know if they will still have viable jobs.
.
It gets even worse when you take into consideration that a channel network like NerdCubed made enough revenue that he was able to employ five other people: DadCubed, Many a True Nerd, Mattaphobia, Wot and two other support staff. If he goes under, five other people lose their job... including his father.
It's called RedTube
