While they may be joking about looking at it, the makers certainly have access to it. All the snaps everyone sends gets saved to a server, so while it only lasts 10 seconds on your phone, it stays in the snapchat server forever.

If you are surprised, I don't know what to think. Any company can see what you do with their product. Internet apps above all. I don't read the terms and conditions, but I bet that is stated there.
