You guys do realize that the average student is usually being compared to a student specializing in what they're comparing. It's like comparing a rounded character with a tank or rogue.
I don't think we are quite that low, but we are definitely delusional if we think we are still at the top. Our quality of education has been declining, and it is quite appalling in primary school.
Different guest here but you can get the most recent results of the study by searching "oecd pisa 2012 united states" on Google.
You guys place right around where the article says (27th in math, 20th in science). But it only reports higher-than-average confidence, not highest
That's better. I still wonder why many of those countries send people to America to go to school. Someone is going to say "those are our country's rejects". I raise the point that a lot of countries only send their top performers to secondary school, and the top performers from that to post-secondary school. In the US, nearly everyone goes to secondary school, and college is fairly common, as well. So essentially, they are comparing the top performers of some of these other countries to average students here (some of whom are rejected from attending school in there country). This is what we call skewed results.
I'm not surprised the people in my generation here in the u.s are so clueless and blind. They even think our politics is also great and are voting for people like Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and sadly some even for Donald Trump.
as an european student i can tell you our professors constantly, and i do mean constantly, rant about how we have zero confidence and how we should be more like americans (loads of our professors had some experience with usa, some half-vacations or whatnot they've been taking). it's hilarious if you think about it.
Not technology, and barely medicine. This is due to the fact that Obama and other socialists are making it so much harder for businesses to thrive in the u.s.
I recall reading the article in "The Wall Street Journal." US high school students did bring up the rear on math and geography, but were tops in confidence that they knew a lot.
Note even most Americans know the secret for how America makes smart educated Americans without good schools. But I will reveal it now:
Smart educated people move here from other countries, and become Americans.
