Yeah its basically takes place in Toronto in the 1800-1900s with a detective name Murdock the episode that has that actor is called the Pharoahs curse

Sure most episodes don't need a whole lot of background knowledge except that Murdock is Christian and he has a sidekick named Crabtree who's a part time author
