it's okay if she got the surgery if that was the only way for her to lose weight.
i don't think anyone should be terribly congratulated for trying to be healthier and lose some extra fat. staying healthy is sort of every individual's duty, it's not some grand achievement or something. sure, people should be kindly encouraged to lose weight or stop smoking, etc but you know, the 'congrats on losing 2,9 pounds in the last 3 months' parties are a bit much in my opinion.
lastly, very good on you to lose weight on your own by engaging in a healthier lifestyle. you're a very good example. :)
Congrats TO YOU!!!! That's a lot of dedication! ;)

Am I the only one who feel insulted when people notice I've lost weight. (I have health issues and one of my med's side effects is weight gain, but I've also got another health issue that causes me to lose my appetite so my weight goes from any where to underweight to fat.) I suppose I feel that way because I have very little control over my weight.
I recently lost quite a lot of weoght in a short period of time. And ya, I started to feel uncomfortable when people noticed and congratulated. I didn't feel like it was an achievement of any sort so maybe that's why. . .
My sister got really upset when people congratulated her on how much weight she was loosing a couple of years ago because she wasn't trying to but at 26 got down to 30kg (about 65lbs) and it was terrifying
people at work frequently mention how much weight i've lost, but during a period of time that i have been slowly gaining weight. people are just programmed to congratulate you for weight loss by society.
No joke, met a lady who had a similar surgery. Long story short, the doctor "threw something away" and they couldn't fix it (wish I remembered exactly what), so now she is terminal. Last I heard they were going to insert a tube into her stomach or intestines so she can actually get nutrients (she was so skeletal last I saw). Sad thing is she originally wasn't too terribly overweight, I'd describe her as pleasantly plump, but now will most likely be leaving her family. Really changed my view on that particular surgery, accident or not :(
I know someone who had that type of surgery and something got messed up and now she can't control her bowels and has to wear a diaper at age 40-something.
Weight loss surgery is an option for people who need a jump start. It's not something to be taken lightly, therefore she did not cheat, she simply used a tool like you would with exercise or anything else that helps/maintains weight loss. She could very easily gain all that weight back if she doesn't watch what she eats. I know this because I had weight loss surgery and I used the tool for quite awhile, lost at least a hundred pounds but ended up gaining it all back, including more. It was a difficult ride and it hurt like a bitch. My mom too had weight loss surgery and she worked very hard to get where she is. This is not cheating, as much as people want to believe. Don't be petty, feel happy for her, and I'm glad you had the motivation to lose it on your own without the surgery. Good for you. <3
