Well they aren't always swimming at that level of water so what about when it's deeper? Explain that

When the level of water is deeper, they swim. When not, they do what they're doing in the Picture.

So when they're coming after you, swim to/the deeper ends so/they/can't catch/ you?? Too/deep to stay above water ? Logic fails
