Last I heard this cave was abandoned because it cost to much money to upkeep.

No, but the caverns natural state is really hot and filled with water. The only way for people to go there was for the mining company who owns it was to constantly pump out water and pump cool air into the area but mostly just the staging area. For the cave itself you have to wear a special suit and anyone going in has a 30 min. time limit. The money it costs is to run the pumps and the a/c units necessary to make it possible for people to visit is quite high.
