Really though, why is makeup deemed necessary at all for typical people? For Halloween, special effects, burn victims, etc, sure. But if people don't like the way you look without caking your face in stuff that can damage your skin, then you need to be around other people. If you don't like the way you look without it, you probably need therapy.
I personally wear make up because i like it. I don't give a fuck about what people say both when i am wearing it and when i am not. And as long as you use products of good quality, you are not "damaging your skin". In fact, nowadays creams and concealers and that kind of stuff carry different oils and other things that are good for your skin.
Unpopular opinion maybe, but..
You know what always surprises me? That when it comes to any other part of our lives, decorating is acceptable.
You want to add glitters to your room? Go on!
You want to add more color to your garden? Go on!
You want do something playful with your clothes? Go on!

But if you like to decorate yourself, add a little glitter here, a little color there, then you MUST hate yourself. Decorating yourself is an absolutely natural tendency. We do it literally everywhere else, and why shouldn't we? It's a way of expressing yourself and there's nothing wrong with that.
Whether you decide to express yourself using jewelry, clothing, make-up, or a pointed lack of any of the above, it's your choice and your decision. And nether option make the person chosing it someone who "obviously hates themselves".
THANK YOU LIHEA it's hard to put it into words but that's exactly how i feel. To me, makeup is supposed to be FUN. And just like with everything else, if you don't find it fun then you shouldn't be wearing it just to please other people. You wouldn't play a sport you don't like or hear music you don't like just to please other people would you? Makeup and any other kind of self expression is like a hobby you can take with you in your daily life
