The Internet grew from the American military's ARPANET, the UK's NPL, and the French CYCLADES. It was a joint project between academia and the military. At any rate, I contend that as a country we have consistently uploaded only the best and brightest examples of our civilization for posterity.
No the Internet was invented by Sir Tim Berners-Lee who is an Englishman but the Americans don't like to acknowledge that fact. It's a bit like Concorde.....but I'm not starting that debate again!

It's not like they put brand new art in a museum. That's a gallery. A museum is a building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited.
