Anyone who has worked retail will understand this frustration

I hated those customers. 8 AM is not the time to be paying with a hundred dollar bill. You need to wait at least until 1, after my lunch break.

I usually either give them lots of ones and coin or just laugh.

Or just tell them we don't have change. I do that any time. It's not like I work at a bank.

Been there before, and the store I worked at even had a sign saying 'no bills over $20 accepted' I swore off retail after getting punched by a guy at 2am because I wouldn't take a $50 bill for a $0.99 soda.

"this is US currency you have to take it" Nope I really don't unless you accept an IOU for your $99.35 worth of change. Yep fuck you too sir have a great day and drive safely.

Have you guys experienced quick change artist yet? Had one a few months ago look at me in disbelief because he thought I was dumb enough to give him change for a hundred he took from my hands.

I would tell customers " ok but I'm keeping the change".

Happens to me everyday!

I once had a customer buy an item for around $80 and pay with a $100. I had change but that wiped out all my larger bills. He returned the item a short while later and got very pissed when I tried to give him $5's back and refused to take them. I told him he could give me the change I gave him earlier and I would give him his original $100, but he got even angrier. I had to take larger bills from four other cash drawers (I am a manager and can do that) to satisfy this asshole and get him to leave. He was a regular customer until then (always with problems) and has never been back! Good riddance.
