Although there were a few movies with African Americans in the lead roles.. who were overlooked.. I think it's more to bring attention to the lack of diversity rather than saying these people are purposely not nominating blacks for whatever reason.
It's not that ridiculous. The reason Black awards shows were started was because the Oscars took such a defiant role as not allowing people of color to be nominated. If for two years, back to back, there still isn't a single person of color even NOMINATED, that is kind of questionable.
If the Oscars were against the nomination of black people, the long list of black Oscar nominees would not exist. In two years, black actors haven't been nominated because coincidentally, the more skilled actors were white. Go get an account.
So according to the thumbsgiving here, a lot of people on this site really do believe, that for two years in a row there has not been a black actor having enough talent and dedication to even deserve an oscar nomination?
Mmmm no. I just believe maybe there were actors whi for some reason deserved it more and they happened to be white. There has not been hispanics or asians nominated and we are not crying about it. Maybe will smith should have been nominated. But i haven't seen any of the movies. Hell i still do not now how the lady from boyhood won i thought that movie sucked! But i guess it is not our job to decide. Sone Oscar's are full of african american inspired movies that win or are the most nominated that year (color purple, 12 yrs of slave, the help) yes. It is a shame there is not more diversity but i don't think boycotting is the answer! They just seem bitter. We minorities should step it up and work hard and yeah we should be given more oportunities. There is a hispanic director nominated. He should make movies with hispanics maybe and so on for all minorities. But i mean in a year were movies like the danish girl is nominated...and steje jobs... well yeah there are a lot of white people
If you want to get rid of racism in the entertainment business than what about the BET's or the things that specifically point out you are talented because you are black. We should not have these separate award shows, and than have them complaining when they do not get nominated for the Oscars. It is based purely on talent, and if these actors and actresses think it's racist because there are no black nominees then they should take a look at the awards shows awarding them for the color of their skin, and not purely talent! My opinion! PLEASE DONT BEAT ME UP
Yup. I understand why there is a BET ... but then either TV becomes all varied or if there is a BEt there should be then a WET, and HET, a AET .... but i am sure a WET would get crap for being racist for employing white actors only. I am hispanic and yes i take pride on hispanics being nominated and winning but i am not expecting for Edgar Ramirez (fellow venezuelan. He is in Joy) to be cast as steve jobs
So, some of you seem to think the problem should be solved by segregation, huh? Well, something goes to show...
Oh, one pretty major difference between blacks and ALL other non-whites: the blacks really, really didn't want to leave their home countries for north america. Might explain why black people may be a little more cranky and mopey than other non-whites.
They keep using that as an excuse to ask for freebies. Listen I get that slavery and Jim Crow and shit was horrible, but making a black version if everything is just like creating segregation again. Getting freebies due to their skin color just makes them need to use less effort and thus actually puts down the whole race. Why can't they just define themselves based on their value as humans? Why do they have to constantly forcus on skin color? At this point, they're opposing equality by refusing to be judged by their merit as humans, because it's easier to just get affirmative action wherever you go, pride as a human be damned.
I am pretty, pretty sure blacks would rather NOT focus on their skin colour. And saying "blacks are asking for freebies" would be a terrible insult, if it didn't come from a proven teenage dumbtwat.
Seriously? Then why are they pissed that black actors aren't getting Oscars when its just a matter of coincidence that has nothing to do with race? Why is this whole thing an issue? After all, the Oscars have nothing to do with race.
To be fair though that film was 9years ago!!!!
Will Smith has been nominated for 2 oscars in the past but (imo) not been in anything oscars worthy for years
I think black people boycotting the Oscars because there are no black nominees is.. not a there is no diversity thing. I think its a chip on their shoulder thing. Theres no Asians or Hispanics or whatever either. Like if your gonna make it a race issue don't make it a black vs white thing
It just goes to show that they're not looking for equality, they're looking for proportional representation.

No they're looking for attention/special treatment. Downvote me to hell I don't care that's what this is. Like they said in other comments no other races are throwing a hissy except African americans. It's ALWAYS them too. Every time.
Just like affirmative action, its an excuse to get free shit by blaming their lack of effort to achieve success on white people. Guess what, you skin color matters as much in the modern world as your hair color, so fuck off with the affirmative action, you lazy cunts. It's as stupid for black people to get in the Harvard with a 1.3 GPA cuz they're black, as it is for a ginger or a blond, because of their hair color.

Instead of boycotting the oscars for not having black nominees why dont we ask directors why they dont have black actors?
Exactly!!!! There were way more oscar deserving movies with white people as leads. That is not the oscars fault! Of course that there is more chance for white people to be nominated. I might be wrong but i think the only posibilities were will smith for actor and a couple of nods for best song.
Instead of boycotting, what if all the other races showed up to the Black Entertainers awards show? You know how mad they'd be? It's about wanting attention, not about race!
The problem is there were many Oscar-worthy performances from black actors the last two years. The Acadamy chose to pass over those for performances by white performers. The voters are, as a rule, old white men. Sorry, but there is a bit of racism going on there.
On this site, people who are wrong are usually too ashamed of themselves to keep their comments up. To everyone else, wiggleworm was replying to some idiot asshat who wanted to know which black actors/actresses have won in the past.
Racism is defined as believing a race to be better than another. Boycotting the Oscars because there are no black nominees is, by definition, not racist. They are not saying that white actors do not deserve to be nominated, they are simply saying that black actors deserve to be too.

Not if their acting isn't good enough. Sorry not everyone is getting a participation award, but that's the way it goes. Look at Leonardo dicaprio you don't see him throwing a bitch fit like that and hes a Damn fine actor.
Yea exactly. It's not about helping black people, it's about wanting easy gains with no work. It can't be said that black people aren't being chosen due to racism, cuz there have been black people nominated before.
If your acting sucks it sucks. The oscar aren't racist lol that just sounds ridiculous. Lots of black people have been nominated/won before. Just because there weren't any this year doesn't mean anything. That'd be like bitching that there wasn't enough white people in basketball for the past two years. thats how stupid this sounds to everyone

Okay so maybe they need to earn that position, you don't get hand outs anywhere especially something like that. It's earned, not given.
so who are the engineers at google? oh you don't know every damn one of them? they must not be qualified then. fire every employee at google cuz apparently fame = qualification for a job that doesn't require fame.
Dude I'm trying to show how retarded your first statement was. Just because I don't know the judges by name, doesn't mean that they don't know what they're doing. Just like any damn job on the planet that doesn't require fame, the judges don't need to be known by the masses in order to be qualified for their job. You are saying 'I'm assuming you know the judges cuz you said that they know what they're doing'. That implies that if I don't know who they are, I cannot say that they know what they are doing. However, your asnine logic also applies to the example I set forth about the Google employees. Just because I don't know who exactly the engineers of Google are, doesn't mean I cant say that they know what they're doing. After all, they got fucking hired.

Ahem, hi. Excuse me. Sorry to intrude. I just wanted to politely request that you not use the word retarded so disrespectfully when there are other words actually synonymous with your intended meaning that aren't rude or demeaning. Thanks! *skips off*
You know...maybe they didn't get an Oscar nomination because they haven't been in any Oscar worth films or done any Oscar worthy acting. I really don't think its about skin colour. But there are really good black actors/actresses Denzel Washington is bae.
That fact that people think they are entitled to something for only the color of their skin means that they don't want equality, they just want free handouts.
WE NEED MOR WITE PEEPUL IN DE NBA GUYSS CUZ MUH FEELINGS!!!1!1!1 See how retarded that sounded? We need to understand that it also sounds retarded when we say black people should get rewarded cuz they're black.
It's not even the Oscar's fault that the people they consider the best actors in the best movies are all white. Casting directors don't usually cast people of color, and the role usually pre-determines the race on the description for the audition. Plus, at auditions there are usually more white people to choose from in the first place. If there are 100 people who audition, 99 being white and one being black, look at the odds in the very beginning.
As Will.I.Am so eloquently put his opinion on the issue: Who gives a fuck.
awards aren't race-oriented, they're talent-oriented.
If they want some awards, make their own damn Oscars.
Michael B. Jordan (Creed),O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton),Abraham Attah (Beasts of No Nation),Audra McDonald (Ricki and the Flash), Adepero Oduye (The Big Short),John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens),Teyonah Parris (Chi-Raq). These are all black actors, NO nominations for there AMAZING AND BREATHTAKING performances in the following movies. If you cannot see that there is something SLIGHTLY fishy about this years oscars you have to be blind as all hell.
Mmm only one i saw was star wars from those and the guy was good. Ok. but i don't think orcar nomination at all!. Ray was better (she had more to work with) and no one is expecting for her to get an oscar. You might be right about everyone else. I wouldn't know.

Well I can se why. They can nominate up to ten people for a category and there were 2 african movies that deserve to be put on the fuckinv list. Boycott the hell out of that shit! Those were excellent movies, how they never made it on the list is extremely fishy.
Oh ur rite. BTW we should also give every black person $20000000000 because more black people are poor so that's obviously racism not a result of their actions at all.
Oh, one pretty major difference between blacks and ALL other non-whites: the blacks really, really didn't want to leave their home countries for north america. Might explain why black people may be a little more cranky and mopey than other non-whites.

Charlotte Rampling said it quite well here.. http://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/jan/22/oscars-2016-charlotte-rampling-diversity-row-racist-to-white-people
Seems that many people are scared to say what they really think these days.
