I'm just saying if you keep anything long enough, it'll become rare and at least potentially valuable. Could be 5 generations, but still.

like your great grandfather's WWI combat knife? Sure, it's valuable as a relic but rather useless in any other respect.

I guess I meant more than 5 generations. It also helps if the thing has intrinsic value to begin with. That being said, I'd never sell a family heirloom.
