I understand that one can be antiwar but still respect the soldiers. Problem is this is very rare. The military is usually seen as willing accomplices to the evil military industrial complex, and are often the objects of misplaced hatred. I know many veterans and my ex, who is a mental health counselor, worked at the VA with veterans who still have experienced negative receptions. Many current veterans I've spoken with describe much of the same treatment our Vietnam and Korean vets experienced.
Furthermore, I have an issue when leftist protesters use our brave men and women to try to further their agenda.
Yes it is a stereotype, but the majority of art of this nature is political, liberal, and anti-military.
Having said that, I really do think this is a cool peice, and I see it as honoring our fallen heroes.
(The piece is called Some/One, and the artist did not have any particular meaning in mind. He intentionally left it open to interpretation.)
