Yeah I know him, everyone's like:"Guys, Columbus discuverd 'murika", and then some people are like"erm, nonono, the Vikings discovered it first!" But they're both wrong as fuck
Leif Eriksson was actually born in Greenland and took his crew with him to Norway, where he discovered Christianity. He loved Christianity so much that he decided to go back home to Greenland to convert everyone there. But on the way he accidentally landed in the Americas
Uh-huh.
Because he didn't have GPS.
Or an accurate map.
How would he know, exactly?
If you left your phone and everything else portable at home and then tried to make it from New York to Los Angeles without asking for directions, only using road signs, could you do it very easily?
Probably not.
Then how do you expect someone from 1492 to traverse a bunch of water that all looks exactly the same and make it to India?
Some experts think it was a political move. He said they were going to reach India because their was money in it. The monarchy was willing to fund it. Saying he was looking for a "new world" would have sounded risky and probably a little nutty.
I just read a book on a related topic called, Prince Henry the Navigator, and according to this book, Colombus knew he didn't reach India. He found the West Indies. He definitely didn't even come close to America.
Oh whoops my fucking bad. He was born in Iceland but fucking grew up in Greenland. Why the fuck did I get Downvoted? Oh I know why! Cause funsubstance used to be a cool website, but now it has a shit ton of stupid ass motherfuckers who Downvote people for stupid reasons. No?
