I think it made it more epic. Yeah there will always be some guy in a duct tape transformer suit made of cardboard boxes. But how awesome is it to see people look EXACTLY like characters from books, comic books, games, cartoons, and etc.. I think it doesn't matter if you are exactly like the person/thing you are trying to be but as long as you think you look awesome who give a shit go be the goofy side of spiderman or who ever.
Rant. Don't bother reading. Also, when I rant, my grammar starts to deteriorate. Don't worry. It's fine.
I half agree. (Is that even possible?) Whal it does look good and all and it's amazing to see the characters actually there, it makes it harder on me to dress up as my favourite characters. I always look lazy-er than I actually am. I do my best to make a decent costume with what I have, and it ends up being the worst one there. I'd be fine with that, IF people wouldn't then comment on how flip it looks. I get it. Your costume was mass produced by Chinese factory workers and had hundreds of people working on it. I get it. It's gonna look nice. But you've gotta keep in mind that, I MADE MINE MYSELF. It's not going to look like the best costume ever.
It shouldn't matter how great yours or someone else's costume is, just as long as you have fun and appreciate others for their hard work and dedication to their favourite characters. Cons are about having fun and being able to show your love of fandoms without being judged. No one should really care if your cosplay is half made of duct tape or cardboard, or if it is store bought. What matters is that you're there and you are showing your love of the art. Sorry if I came across as mad, I'm just not very good at turning thoughts into written words.
Making a costume is great fun! It doesn't matter if you're pro or not. I know some "pros" myself and they're just normal dorky people, trying to have fun. They learn through experience and after they've put so much time into cosplay, they actually learn to do things "right". We all can be pros, and they should just motivate us to keep going and never give up. ;)

Good job.
