Technically they do. They get evaluated by the principal or superintendent every 3 years or so. If they do good then they can get a raise, but they are subject to termination if they continue to do badly. Some teachers get away with this by acting super awesome during eval, but slack off when it's done
My incompetent math teacher actually quit last quarter. She never taught, and I'm glad she all-of-the-sudden quit because I can say goodbye to her and her Porsche (she got a new job. Hope it goes terribly.)
We are observed 1-2 times a year, and have unannounced walk throughs multiple times a semester by our bosses. We are tested constantly. We are graded by a point system based on those evaluations and walk throughs. Add that to us being judged off of student performance and even attendance. Yep. Professional development courses and participation in school events ALSO count. So think again. Sorry.
