I dont listen to rap. I think you're right alot of the popular songs and artists are really low quality. HOWEVER i have heard a song or two that have really deep meanings and show real talent of the artist.
I know I'm gonna sound like a super cliche fuck rn but listen to some old eminem if you ever doubt rap, like cinderella man, when I'm gone, and mockingbird especially if you are looking for crazy deep and reallt good stuff. Like tbh I still can't listen to headlights without getting goosebumps.
Yes, but when in whole music genre with thousands and thousands "musicians" from all over the world there's only 3 or 4 decent ones, this is not right. Right now rap music is the last resort for talentless people, who want to make money from stupid people, but can't sing and even autotune will not do the thing for them.
Dude the actual good ones are on the rise. I've seen more good rappers lately, and I know there's a bunch that I can't name that are good too probably.
When you said "old Eminem" I thought you were about to bring up the Slim Shady LP. Very different from how he sounds today but it's a great album. I recommend it to anyone who likes Eminem.
mm then you all who think rap is good should come to my floor and beat the ever living shit out of those who think We Ain't Playin by Chip da Ripper is good.

the bullshit sounds that emanate from people's speakers...
Low quality genre is sticking it a bit too harsh. I can understand where you're coming from because a majority of the rap that's mainstream is pretty trash but I can list a few that are too golden to downgrade the entire genre for:
1)The ever present Eminem, but he's obviously here for a reason. He's got Beautiful, Not Afraid etc.
2)Obie Trice with Adrian Rezza on Battle Cry.
3)Lupe Fiasco makes some really meaningful stuff, like Words I Never Said, Beautiful Lasers etc.
4)Fit for a king by Sway is also really good.
5)This isn't very common as its rap mixed with orchestra but -> libera me from hell
Uhhh there's more but they aren't coming to me now. I'm not shutting you down op, but I think you're being a little too harsh trashing an entire genre that's given me some of the best songs of my life
You can't generalize a genre of music, just like you can't say every horror movie sucks. Just cuz a lot of the ones that get blasted through mainstream speakers or radio that YOU happen to hear suck, doesn't mean it all sucks. There are many exceptions to generalizations like this and its really just not a complete picture. There are things a lot of rappers have to say that may be a little hidden in the midst of other valueless lyrics, but trust me if you listen you'll hear em. I hate a lot of country music but I always try and avoid saying all country sucks. I note the many exceptions to the rule. All I'm saying is: Recognize the talented as well.
The music is going in a different direction. The nursery rhymes style used by Eminem (albeit skillfully) is going out. The modern stuff you dislike paints a picture of the excess of a genere that is blowing up which is artistic and has merit. You all sound like hair metal fans in the grunge era... Dated. Everyone has heard and likes old Eminem stuff recommending it in 2016 earns no cool points
Undone, hunt, tripper, tricycle
Riding, hop, burn marks, my cycle
Hiding, flop, turban, icicle
