In some countries it's a lot worse...I understand what they mean though - In places like Britain or the majority of USA things are pretty good for the LGBT community and people who ARE homophobic are often frowned upon by the majority of the people around them.
However in some countries, gay men are still being stoned and beaten and abused. It's all a matter of perspective and where you are in the world.
I have generally the same viewpoint as this man and can say that it's true. I live in the bible-belt, and I can count on one hand the times I've been discriminated against or bullied or what-have-you for my sexuality, because that's not the first thing I present to people when getting to know them. It's turned out well for me so far, so I don't see any reason to change.
Whelp, that's it folks. One gay person hasn't received that much discrimination, therefore no gay people have the right to complain about anything am I right?
I don't think that's the point of what he's trying to make. He's saying that the fact that you are gay isn't always the reason why your are being "discriminated" on, its possibly the way you are acting. But even then he says "this isn't going to be a popular opinion."
I agree that that's what he meant, but I'm worried that's not what everyone will hear. My concern is that when this quote is reposted elsewhere it may become intended or interpreted as something like "LGBT people are being babies and it's their own fault when people mistreat them."
Also, generally speaking, New York is much more LGBT friendly than a hell of a lot of other places, so his experiences are by no means representative.
Are you forreal?! This guy is saying good things about the way society treats him and you're insisting on playing the professional victim card? Like what if someone repeats a portion of this quote incorrect try and it sets back the lgbtq agenda waaaaaa???!!!!! Why don't you just listen to the man and be happy people aren't as douchey as the media pretends.
Whoa I just read this simple post and now my whole perspective has changed. Now I feel like LGBT people are being babies and it's their own fault when people mistreat them
