I'm not 100% sure but I think those are just two different kinds of egg plants? Also carrots just use to be just straight up sticks?! Who ate a stick and thought they could turn it into a vegetable?!

Nope, you definitely don't, but selective breeding takes a long time and sometimes you end up with things you didn't want. Selective breeding has turned some foods poisonous.
