Despite the fact that France has been savage in every war they've ever fought in. The only reason Americans' think the French are 'cowards' is because France didn't allie with the U.S. when the U.S. wanted to invade Iraq and Afghanistan after 9/11.
Not true. These jokes were abound before 9/11/01. The French were overrun in no time during WWII and had to be liberated from occupation and they held colonies in Vietnam and we're losing an insurrection and we initially went to aid them there. There is the basis of the jokes. To be fair, the French aided us during the American Revolution.
Oh you didn't know why the white flag is referred to surrendering? that's because it was the Royal French Flag, and wherever the french army went, cities prefered to hang out their flag instead of fighting them.
