A terrorist is a terrorist is a terrorist. Doesn't matter what faith, ideology, or creed they follow. They are a terrorist first and finally in all things.
I must say, the majority of people on funsubstance are very respectful. On where, in the past 24 hours also it's absolute hell. They're so mean and hurtful, biased and judgemental. It's absolutely sickening and heartbreaking. Keep up the good work, FS!
It's truly why I use and frequent this place fun and substance. Majority of the people and community here are some of the best on the internet, with quality respect and cultural understanding. Thank you. Seriously, thank all of you
When someone commits a crime and says it was "in the name of Christianity," Christians and Christian clergy come out in force to comdemn the act itself and the attribution to the Christian God. They say how some act (abortion, homosexuality) might be a sin, but we're all sinners and any individual doesn't have the right or responsibility to murder or attack in the name of God. There's usuall nothing BUT condemnation from every direction from the Christians.
But when a Muslim murders or attacks in another way, there's no uproar from Muslim clergy. Sure, there's a huge swell of "don't blame all of us for the actions of a few," but very little condemnation of the act itself from Muslims, and none from the Imams.
This was a very interesting read. Thank you for the info. Please remember to back up your statements with more than one source next time. And try not to use blogs or non-scholarly sources, or find an unbiased source of the issue. (That one was a bit one sided, In my judgement)
Let me just say that I'm not saying Muslims cannot be peaceful. I know that there are peaceful Muslims out there, but they are by far the minority. Also, let me just say to those Muslim reformers out there, keep fighting the good fight
Why would you think that over half of the community is not peaceful? Almost all the Nazis were Christian, and they made up a good majority at one point. Yet we don't see most Christians as violent.
You want to know how many Christians supported the Nazis once they found out what was going on in Nazi Germany? Not fucking many I'll tell ya that. And do you want to know how much support Nazis got from the US government? I'll give you three guesses.
@kurukuruguy the reason we do not assume most Christians are violent (except that the current regime in Washington does) because of what the Nazis did is because the Nazis did what they did in the name of Nazism, not in the name of God. These animals ALWAYS murder in the name of their professed religion. That is the difference, and we must keep their motives in mind.
My question on the other post was a rhetorical one. One or two Muslims occasionally saying these terrorists are not really Muslims is not the Muslim community speaking out. I'll ask again; if this sort of thing is just a handful of nuts who are distorting a peaceful religion, why is the ENTIRE Muslim faith not on TV every single day denouncing these acts? Why is it the only time we hear from CAIR is when they are denouncing some American for suggesting that these terrorists have any connections to Islam, when the terrorists themselves claim to be doing it in the name of Islam?
All I can say is that if we had attack after attack after attack where the perpetrators claimed they were Christians and were simply following the Bible, every fucking church on the planet would grab the nearest camera to deny those murderers were following the Christian faith, led by the Vatican, on a daily basis. Yet we seem to only hear from Muslims when someone dares to suggest that this is a Muslim problem. Again, the terrorists always claim to be Muslims.
I suppose I should also mention that I am absolutely not impugning the entire religion. I do not think that all Muslims are terrorists, nor do I actually believe that a majority support the actions of the terrorists.
However, since terrorism is a very clear and present danger I do believe that we need to ask hard questions and stop being afraid of offending.
My entire country is against the attacks. If your media doesn't cover these stories then you need to question your media instead of questioning us. It was a despicable act. Every Humane person would think that and you don't need vigils to prove it.
I assume from your response you live in a Muslim country? As said, I do not think anywhere near a majority of Muslims support terrorism, but we do not see condemnation by the Muslim community here in Western countries. Muslims tend to keep quiet. Perhaps it is fear of retaliation from the radicals? Perhaps it is not covered by the media; in which case we must ask why not? I ask these questions seriously. We will never stop terrorism if we are afraid to even ask who is doing it.
Ummm... yeah, kinda. If nothing else, seeing all these peaceful Muslims speaking out against these violent terrorists who have hijacked their religion would probably cut down on Islamophobia. As it is, in the West and especially here in America all we see or hear is terrorists claiming responsibility for their actions on behalf of Islam and Allah. Then we see our "leaders" telling us that those terrorists are not Muslims. If the bad guys are saying they are Muslims and are following the Quran, and we don't hear "real" Muslims refuting this assertion I think the general public can be forgiven for thinking that maybe Muslims are a danger.
Because guestwho we can't. We're sick of it, why do we have to apologise every single time, why didn't all the jews apologise when a jewish guy in Tel Aviv attacked a gay pride? Why are you asking so many Muslims to apologise every single time, every single flipping time for a few lunatics? We had the 9/11, the Sydney incident, the Charlie Hebdo incident and we had to explicitly explain we condemn this, of course we condemn this; this many a populace following a faith of "violence" isn't stupid to keep following a religion of violence. We'd be mentally unwell if that was the case & if that many people were bonkers & violent- the world would've met it's apocalypse. Or atleast all the non-muslims would have. God forbid. We get hurled insults at, assaulted, do you even know how the world treated us after the 9/11? You don't bro. People of my faith are being persecuted in Syria, in Palestine, in Afghanistan, Iraq but that's okay; you don't have to apologise for your kind, only we ought to?
As a muslim, the amount of muslims who are extremists or terrorists are BY FAR the minority in a large, peaceful group of people. Why would we support such acts, and accept these acts as our 'culture' or our 'ways', when the fact that its not Americans or any other country that these extremists have hurt the most.
Its their very own countries, Middle Eastern countries, where their fellow Muslim brothers and sisters live. ISIS executes muslims, christians, athiests, homosexuals, and everyone who disagrees with them. Because of these extremists, once beautiful countries, with rich histories and cultures and beautiful, kind people, have been destroyed. Iraq, Syria, Sudan.. all war torn countries because of these so called 'muslims'. The Qu'ran talks of peace, love for everyone, and these horrible people twist and squeeze these beautiful messages to fit their own agenda. You blame us for all being terrorists, or very few of us being humane, but how can we speak of our distaste and anger
when we have so few ways to communicate them? The refugees, the iraqis, the palestinians, the sudanese, the syrians? What means do we have to the media besides of the media showing the war torn mess the country is. Every religion is beautiful, every person, no matter sexuality, beliefs, or upbringing, is equal. A little more than a handful of extremists and terrorists shouldn't be the face of an entire demographic.
I apologize, as a muslim, to all those harmed by this horrible, disgusting man, and my prayers and love go out to the victims and their families. Let us end thess angry comment rants, and agree to just love, live, and let go of all of it.
I apologize if my message hit any of you in the wrong way, I was just trying to express my beliefs.
Have a good day everyone :)
My question was partially rhetorical to try to make a point, and partially sincere. At least here in the States the media create and direct the news. Whenever this issue comes up, and any of them do interview Muslims they pick representatives who clearly have an agenda, such as CAIR. This is the same principle as when there is a bad storm somewhere they only interview toothless trailer park dwellers. The media has a template that they follow, no matter the news. In the case of a terrorist attack the template is always that Islam is peaceful and the terrorists were "radicalized" by the misdeeds and Islamophobia of the US. It is always OUR fault, not theirs.
That was the rhetoric, the sincere question is why do the Muslims that really are peaceful not seem to speak out against these radicals that do not represent Islam? Are they as afraid of pissing them off as our government is, or are they outspoken after all and just don't get media coverage?
Let's simplify the text;
1) "Stop condemning me for my religion and sexuality!"
2) "Fuck you, Christians, Atheists and Muslims! You all persecuted me! You're my enemies!"
Good sentiment. Bad delivery.
ONLY JUDGE PERSONALITY! NOT RELIGION OR SEXUALITY!
But when a Muslim murders or attacks in another way, there's no uproar from Muslim clergy. Sure, there's a huge swell of "don't blame all of us for the actions of a few," but very little condemnation of the act itself from Muslims, and none from the Imams.

You just have to look.
1) "Stop condemning me for my religion and sexuality!"
2) "Fuck you, Christians, Atheists and Muslims! You all persecuted me! You're my enemies!"
Good sentiment. Bad delivery.
