I used to know a girl with an illness and one day she told she wished people would just treat her as an equal. I kind of understand it because they are either treated like dirt or given boosts and short cuts when all they want is to be normal...
True, but if you can relate or understand in any capacity it doesn't matter wether or not you have the illness or know someone with it. You just have to be knowledgeable on the subject matter. At least that's how I see it
I think this is a little silly. I know they're trying to be nice but don't you think that the boy would want be treated equally rather than get a false win? What makes the other kids think he couldn't win anyway? Haven't they ever watched the Special Olympics or the Paralympics?

Maybe they haven't seen it. We don't know. And why do you think they thought that way in the first place? They are in primary school. They have sports and probably saw he's not fast or not as fast as the rest and wanted to make it special. The news said this.. "Being their last sports day they decided they wanted their friend Rory to remember his last running race by coming first"
That's quite sweet on their part. Nobody will do that once they get to high school. Usually sports day marks the end of primary where students end up at different high schools. It was a friendly thing.
