Great Ormond Street hospital done that for me too when I was 18 months to my toy monkey (who was bought at GOSH by my grandad and was of course named, Ormond) :)
My Teddy bear once had a cut and the filling was coming out. So my mum told me, if I put bandages on wounds, they'll heal and so I did. Overnight she sewed my teddy back together and bandaged him again and in the morning I was overjoyed to see that my medical care worked so well :)
I had surgery once when I was younger, I think nine years? I was very scared to the point of crying, so I brought my favorite stuffed cougar. He was very loved and worn, to the point that it was obvious that I'd had him for a long time, and never stopped caring for him. He had a tear in his chest, right where I was getting my surgery done too.
They gave me really cozy socks before the surgery, I don't know why, I think it was to keep me warm. They also had padding on the bottom so I didn't fall after getting up. After the surgery, I woke up and instantly grabbed my cougar.. He had the little socks on too, probably smaller ones designed for babies. He even had surgical-quality stitches to sew up the hole in his chest. I was so overjoyed that my stuffed animal that I loved so much was "Just like me".
Sorry for the long post, I think I got carried away. Heh.
