Part of me wants to point out that children will eat slugs until you tell them not to, but that can 'o worms, hoo boy!
Hey, speaking of things children will eat...
This makes for great Facebook fodder, but has little basis in reality. Anyone that has had the misfortune of spending time with a group of children knows they spend most of their time "not liking" each other, arguing, and fighting.

Children don't know differences until their taught and it's not always the parents doing.
Kids are cruel too.
That's why I want to homeschool my son so I won't end up kicking some kids ass and going to jail.
... and when they leave school? You have to teach kids how to behave and let them socialize with other kids or they never learn how to deal with idiots.

Yeah, idiots are starting to take up most of the population
But my kids play with other kids and after a few minutes they come back crying (bullies) so I tell them to play alone or stay inside which shouldn't be an option for kids and it's sad so I do a lot of things with my kids so they don't have to worry about that kind of stuff
I don't think whoever started this idea has ever seen a child get scared or nervous around strangers. Which happens a lot.
The truth is we're generally wired to trust things that we know. That applies to children just as surely as it does to adults
