No as much as you think actually.
I've seen similar and the trick here is the build scale is such that the blocks are made to seem smaller and therefore give the illusion that the resolution is higher.
A side effect of this is that the environment is many times larger than the player and is essentially unusable as a playable map.

People spend more time modding Minecraft to blow up lesser PCs than they do playing Minecraft.
