Not really. Most expired foods can last for days or sometimes weeks after they expire. The expiration date is what date the earliest signs of bacteria or whatever shows, and even then it can still be later.
Some stores (in America, idk about France) will throw away foods with a long shelf life that expire within the next thirty days, so they are absolutely sure they won't sell expired foods.
The reason they go out of their way to destroy it is because scavengers sue businesses for getting sick from the food that has been thrown away. Frivolous lawsuits are a bitch.
