She ended up wanting to take back her yes because she didn't want to be married off so young.

I think that was a bad move from his side, because firstly he kinda stole the attention that should be hers for winning a silver medal, secondly she had to say yes because she was watched by such a big crowd (and as fronan mentioned she later said she's reconsidered it because she didn't want to get married so young). Now I'm not saying he did it on purpose to pressure her, in fact I think he was just trying to propose at a special moment as men are often told to, but it just came out wrong. Maybe if we changed the expectations from "a proposal has to be a magical moment & a nice surprise" to "do it in private and THEN maybe propose in public if you already know the answer", a lot of problems would be solved.

Maybe they can do one of those things where they are technically engaged but wait a while to be married?
