No it's not. When you have a certain set of actors commit an atrocious attack like that and a holiday observed by that particular set of actors falls on the 15th anniversary of said atrocious attack only an unnatural person of some kind would not link the celebration with the anniversary.
It is not a bad idea or "sad" to let non-Muslims know that a Muslim holiday happens to coincide with our day of mourning this year.
So they have to be sorry for the people who committed the attacks?
Should I feel sorry for celebrating Christmas because someone in your family dies? I get that it's on a bigger proportion but still? Why should something be more important just because you want it to be?
Wow, so many users have no clue.
Perhaps an ISL course or two?
I did not say that anyone should feel sorry for anyone, or that anyone should feel guilty for celebrating any holiday. Jeez!
My point was directed at @sincere_milkshake who apparently cannot understand a simple concept. Let the Muslims celebrate Eid; let Christians celebrate Christmas; let the freaking Martians celebrate whatever the hell they celebrate.
Terrorists murdered more than 3000 people on September 11 in this country, and did so in the name of Islam. If Muslims now celebrate ANYTHING on September 11 it is perfectly reasonable, normal, and expectable that some Americans might think they were celebrating 9/11 on 9/11.
However, the fact is that there really is no reason to think that it would be a problem. This is just a case of shit stirrers stirring shit. And apparently Eid is going to fall on September 12 anyway.
But my point was, is, and will be that it is not "sad" that someone might think that someone might think that they would be celebrating the attacks. Milkshake is not an American as far as I know, and perhaps she doesn't understand how something like the 9/11 attacks could be a sore subject. But common sense should tell you that it just might be important to some people.
Yeah but like why automatically assume that a group of people are celebrating a tragedy. They're saying that it's sad that Muslims are automatically seen to be celbrating what happened on 9/11 instead of a holiday for them.
^exactly. First off the attacks were perpetrated in the name of Islam. The argument of whether terrorists are true Muslims is irrelevant; they claimed to be doing it for Islam. As such, any Muslims celebrating ANYTHING on any September 11, in America, would appear highly suspect wouldn't they? I don't see any way this should be difficult to grasp.
But the important issue here is that this is a strawman. There is no, let me repeat that: THERE IS NO CREDIBLE EVIDENCE THAT SUGGESTS AMERICANS WOULD THINK THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY IS CELEBRATING THE ATTACKS. This is some America-hating leftist trying to start a shitstorm. Most Americans do not know much, if anything about Muslim holidays, but most Americans that live around Muslims that might be seen celebrating probably know a little about them. Let's stop the spread of bullshit, shall we?
Sure, but why do non-Muslims need to be "educated" on Muslim holidays?
This celebration occurs every year, and around the same time. Anyone living in close enough proximity to Muslims to see them celebrating knows enough about them to know it's a religious holiday. And they would have seen it in years past. Anyone who wouldn't have a clue probably would not encounter any Muslims. Someone somewhere simply thought they found an excuse to stir up trouble between the "innocent and peaceful Muslims" and the "ignorant and xenophobic rednecks" this year. Note: I'm not referring to this post. I have seen "PSAs" in many places in the media recently.
The point is moot, however, since Eid Al Adha falls on September 12 this year.
What's the harm in being educated on Muslim holidays? It would make people less ignorant

To all the people arguing, just remember that the single biggest religion in terms of terrorism is Christianity. Yet you don't see people running around and complaining about how Christians should have to wear ankle bracelets, or be on a register. That's because a large majority of western countries have a significantly higher population of Christians and can see that their not all terrorists. 99% of them will just be your average, every day people. The fear over Muslims is that the terrorist attacks are happening closer to you, coming from a population which is much more foreign. That doesn't make it any worse then the atrocities committed by various other major religions. The fear over Islam is greatly unfounded when compared with other major religions. So stop running scare campaigns and start acknowledging that they are not responsible for the actions of others who pretend to be what they are. ISIS and Islam are different things, despite what one would have you believe.
yeah don't touch them ^ or you'll catch the stupid. seriously are you dumb? they just said that Islam and ISIS are not the same thing which is 100% true. And has everyone forgotten the crusades and how shitty that whole thing was?
Because the crusades are totally relevant now, right? And it's not like they were started because Muslims invaded the holy land and attacked the Christians that were already there.
First of all, the crusades were not fought by Christians but by Catholics. Secondly, the #1 historical murderers of Christians were Catholics. And thirdly, the #1 historical murderers of Catholics are Catholics (Spanish Inquisition anyone?) Saying that that Christian are murderers in the same statement as ISIS is not Islam just shows you know what buzz words are, but not what they mean. The pope is just a man, Mary was just a woman and praying to saints and statues IS idol worship. Don't throw around Christians to mean Catholics if you don't want others throwing around ISIS to mean Islam.
And don't even get me started on the spanish inquisition. They were dissolved, what, almost 400 years ago? "Why?", you ask? Because, we realized how ignorant we were being and enlightened the fuck up. This isn't the middle ages anymoren but these terroristic assholes act like it is. Only instead of swords and trebuchets, they have fully automatic weapons, and fucking bombs, do you get why we might be a tad unnerved by them! Because it fucking worked! The terrorism worked! But it's less of a paralyzing fear, and more a catlyzing fear. Same kinda fear I hold towards our government. It doesn't make me want to quake in my boots, it makes me want to get up and do something! Do you know how many Muslims were killed in retaliation for the 9\11 attacks? Like, one guy. And he wasn't just killed by joe shmoe American everyman, he was lynched by some neo-Nazi dirtbags. So don't you come in here and tell me to get off of my high horse!
People the fucking crusades were fought against Muslims because THEY invaded Jerusalem and tried to take over Europe. The crusades were NOT Christian murderers run amok. Try a little education.
@chakun what is your religion?
I have my own, very strange beliefs about God, many of which conflict with established dogma, but I generally identify as christian, because I believe Christ died for our sins.
I still believe myself to be a Christian too, there's just too much BS in "organized" religion. I had too many questions that the pastor and others were unable to answer when I was younger, and "just because you were told" doesn't quite work for me! Especially when every religion thinks they're the only true followers, but God clearly says in the Bible that there will be sheep from other flocks in Heaven, or something to that effect.
When I was probably about 10 or 12 I pointed out that the Bible was actually written by humans, rewritten by other humans, and translated into other languages by more humans over a couple thousand years, and just maybe someone along the line messed up somewhere. I thought I was going to be burned at the stake as a heretic! Beliefs are one thing but closed-minded is quite another.
I'm the same way. I was more into Christianity when I was younger but always had a problem with it, for the same reason you said actually. So I more just took the good things out of religion and follow them and don't agree with the more sketchy stuff or thinking being gay is a sin and stuff like that.
I'm pretty sure God (who or whatever God is) cares more about how we live our lives and how we treat others than whether we get dressed up and go through some mindless ritual every week when our hearts aren't in it.
All you bloody Americans need to get your head out of your arses before you start WW3. All we need is for you to assassinate someone from another country and it will start. So sit down shut and think about everyone else not just yourselves
Guess what! The problem in our country, and a lot of other ones, is that all they do is think about everyone else, you get humanitarian aid! You get humanitarian aid! Every country in the world gets humanitarian aid! We have enough problems back home, and contrary to what other countries think, we're not stupid, and in fact, our intervention has prevented WW3 way more times than it almost caused it. If WW3 breaks out, it's because America fucking wanted it to.
