Not sure if this is true though. Customs are picky and you're not really allowed to send or bring plants from other countries to.

He probably got them sent by military mail which is analyzed and distributed by the military. If they said he could have it, the host country wouldn't even know when it came in.

That's how you spread disease,parasites and fungi to other ecosystems. Plus, they may not have a predator to counteract whatever is being introduced.
